Everything for the chapter you are working through, in one place per chapter
The book alternates between concept and practice. Theory chapters build the reasoning; exercise chapters apply it to a dataset you build from your own field’s literature. Each hub below carries what that chapter needs: the prerequisite primers, the worked notebooks, the data, the tool guide, and the studies filtered to that chapter’s lens.
Chapters 1, 11, and 12 have no separate materials: they are read, not worked through.
Theory chapters
Each closes with a Practice section that reads published studies through one design stage. The hub filters the studies database to that stage.
Chapter 3 — Data as relational and process
The 3S framework: source, structure, standardization. 91 studies annotated for data management.

Exercise chapters
Each names a deliverable. They chain: the corpus from Chapter 4 is what Chapter 6 codes, what Chapter 8 analyzes, and what Chapter 10 communicates.

The Rules / Memory / Knowledge skeleton, downloadable whole or file by file.
Chapter 4 — Gathering literature
OpenAlex retrieval, screening, and the codebook that documents both.
Chapter 6 — Automated coding
Dictionary, LLM, and classifier coding of the same corpus, plus the validity audit. Two worked notebooks.
Chapter 8 — Applying computational methods
Networks, diffusion, prediction, embeddings. One worked notebook and sample network data.
Chapter 10 — Communicating your pipeline
Reproducible reports, dashboards, and the uncertainty layer. Starter scaffolding for each form.

Theory and exercise chapters are meant to be read together, and the hubs cross-link accordingly:

Reading one study through all four lenses across a semester shows how a decision at one stage constrains the options at the next. The full studies database supports exactly that: switch the lens and the same study is re-annotated.
